In a disheartening turn of events for the Detroit Lions, cornerback Amik Robertson sustained a season-ending injury during their playoff game against the Washington Commanders. Robertson, who stepped up admirably to contain Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson in Detroit’s previous outing, was forced to leave the field after a collision with teammate Jack Campbell.

According to NFL Media, the impact resulted in a broken humerus, necessitating immediate surgery on Saturday night. The injury occurred when Robertson attempted to tackle Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin during a crucial second-and-4 play from Washington’s 26-yard line. Campbell, pursuing the play, inadvertently struck Robertson’s arm with his shoulder, causing them both to fall to the ground and injuring Robertson’s arm.

Amik Robertson Injury Update

Initially reported to be taken to a Detroit-area hospital for further evaluation, NFL.com later revealed that Robertson is expected to be ready for offseason workouts, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the setback.

Robertson’s injury was apparent as he lay on the field, attended to by Detroit’s medical staff. Despite the discomfort, he managed to walk off the field with assistance, his arm supported to minimize further damage.

The Lions initially listed Robertson as questionable to return with an elbow injury, but his status was later downgraded to out, signaling the severity of the injury.

Kindle Vildor stepped in to replace Robertson after the injury.

Who is Amik Robertson?

A fourth-round draft pick (139th overall) by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, Robertson spent his first four NFL seasons with the team, starting 21 games and contributing four interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and 15 passes defensed.
